June Events of the Vancouver Parent Transition Group – An Invite and a Change

Hi everyone – Hoping to see you all on Saturday June 1st at our meeting and party. Please note the place for our summer get together, the address is on the invite. Tim Randles of Vancouver Resource Society has once again kindly offered us their space on West 10th. Invitation to the party is attached. Feel free to print and distribute widely.

This is a chance for family members and friends of transitioning youth to meet each other and to hear and discuss
information on Sexuality and Safety concerns. In addition we will be distributing information on Parks Board Summer Access Programs.

We hope to have a great talk (11am start) and then celebrate the coming of summer with pizza and goodies afterwards.
RSVPs would be great, so we have a rough idea on the numbers for ordering pizza!

During the info part of the session, there will be a movie showing in another room for those youth who wish to watch.

Please note that we have decided to cancel the Wednesday night June 5th meeting at Britannia since it is so close to the June 1st meeting. The information on recreation programs that was to be covered will be presented at the June 1st meeting.

Finally by popular demand we are hoping to hold another Housing Forum in either June or July. More info on this to follow.

May 1st meeting of the Transition Group – Service Providers Panel

Hi parents and caregivers – we are very pleased to have a panel of Service Providers at our next meeting of the Transition Parent Group, on Wednesday May 1^st.  Service Providers are agencies that can provide Support Workers to help your son/daughter achieve their goal for a meaningful life after graduating from school, be it community inclusion, volunteering or employment.  Some agencies also run Day Programs.

 

Come and meet representatives from three agencies –

Wednesday March 6th, 2013 meeting is on Wills and Trusts

We are very pleased to have Pat Tesan for our meeting next week, who will be providing us with information regarding Wills and Trusts especially designed to help provide a safe and secure future for the family members that we care for.
Pat will be there to speak to this concern and also to help answer your individual questions.

December Meeting of the Transition Group is on Employment / Dec 5

December Meeting – Employment

Hello Parents, Caregivers and Friends,

We’d love to see you at our December meeting, focusing on the subject of employment for our transitioning youth and young adults.
We hope this meeting will provide you with some up to date information on changes to funding for employment training, a description of some of the excellent programs out there and a few ideas on how you can help prepare your youth for eventual employment.

DDA (Developmental Disabilities Assn) has kindly offered to provide some of this information and we will also be reporting on the recent employment summit .

As always feel free to bring along other interested parties, we will provide information, support, refreshments and a chance to share our stories.
